JAKARTA -Facebook Inc. make massive management changes and launch new divisions. This step is done after the scandal abuse of the data of social media users.
Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg made changes in several divisions and gave more responsibility to the company’s product division chief and launched the blockchain division. However, the social media is reluctant to give reasons behind the management’s restructuring.
Reuters launch Wednesday (9/5/2018), Chief Product Officer Chris Cox will now oversee the company’s products such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.
This change also followed the resignation of two founders of WhatsApp in recent months. WhatsApp will later handled by Chris Daniels, who was previously responsible for Facebook’s efforts in the expansion of internet access.
Meanwhile, Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer and Vice President of Growth Javier Olivan will oversee other divisions, including divisions in charge of new platforms and infrastructure and divisions that are tasked with running centralized services such as advertising systems.
David Marcus, who oversees Messenger for the past four years, will move to a division exploring blockchain technology on Facebook.
Blockchain is a technology that helps the development of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, can be used to record business transactions that occur. Marcus said it would start developing blockchain from scratch.
The new division will also include Kevin Weil, who previously served as head of product at Instagram. Adam Mosseri, who initially occupied the head position of Facebook News Feed, will replace Weil’s role.
As is known, in the last few months up into the spotlight of the world after the scandal of data abuse of its users exposed. The data of 87 million users of social media is known to be leaked and distributed to Cambridge Analytica, a US-based media consulting firm.
