Some airlines plan to open flight routes to Tanjung Selor after the establishment of Tanjung Harapan Airport, including Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air and Xpress Air.
Kaltara Governor Irianto Lambrir said Xpress Air is rumored to be replacing Kalstar Aviation whose operational is currently suspended.
Xpress Air is an airline based in Makassar and focuses on flying routes to eastern Indonesia. Connected routes served include Jayapura, Sorong, Ternate, and Makassar.
“But we are still waiting for the decision from the Ministry of Transportation, Kalstar is suspended, but has not revoked its route so no other airlines can replace it,” said Irianto, Sunday (29/10/2017).
According to him, Xpress Air is looking for suitable aircraft to operate in Kaltara. The airline has 16 aircraft, some of which can be operated for moderate-run airports, such as the Dornier 328-100 type.
Garuda Indonesia also expressed its readiness to serve the flight route in Tanjung Selor with Bombardier aircraft. However, the state-owned airline has requested that the runway be extended.
“For Garuda still in the exploratory stage, the possibility of entering next year, they requested that the runway be extended at least 1,800 meters,” he said.
Irianto is optimistic that adequate transportation infrastructure is able to attract investors with the opening of transportation and logistics access. If the runway has been qualified, then the airline will race to open the route.
Sriwijaya Air, continued, even has conducted a survey to the Airport of Tanjung Harapan to follow up the potential of opening a flight route to the capital of Kaltara.
Currently, the flight route to Tanjung Selor is served by Lion Air via Wings Air. Irianto requested that the airline add one more flight, so that there are scheduled flights twice a day.
