Jakarta -PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) is still reviewing to bring the latest generation Swift to Indonesia. The company does not want to comment much, although the hachback car is already filling the market of many other countries.

Head Of 4W Brand Development & Marketing Research SIS Harold Donnel said today the company has a new toy in the hatchback class. Since mid-2014 SIS has imported completely or completely built up (CBU) Baleno Hatchback. On the other hand the company stopped selling Swift since March 2017.

Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Baleno currently controls 19.85% of the sedan market. As a new player, this car has been sticking legs in third in his class.

Harold says Baleno Hatchback is a major weapon to target young people in Indonesia. Based on internal company research, Suzuki consumers are over 35 years old. Yet based on population census data in 2015, Indonesia is experiencing a jump population aged 18-35 years.

Baleno itself is actually not a foreign name for the Indonesian automotive world. Baleno has been part of the history of small sedan development since it was first introduced in 1996 in the country.

Hatchback version of Suzuki sedan launched, because it sees market trends. Harold explained that in the period 1990 to early 2000 sedans became the choice of young executives. Young people’s success is measured by ownership of the type of car.

The transformation of the sedan into a stump begins around 2004-2005. This change is in line with the density of roads in big cities. The stolen sedan has a better turning radius compared to a long body sedan.

Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) last week started export of the new Swift. The car is manufactured by Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), a 100% SMC subsidiary to assemble cars in India. Newer Swfit is shipped from Mumbai Port to South Africa, with Maruti Suzuki as an exporter.

Vehicle exports from India expand to more than 100 countries and regions including Europe, Japan, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In fiscal year 2017, total exports Maruti Suzuki reached 126,000 unitt, or up 2%. Swift is the first SMG model to be shipped out of India.

Meanwhile, over the past year, Indonesia has imported Baleno Hatchback models from India at least 2,548 units, while Swift recorded only 92 units. Segment of this sedan is quite small in Indonesia. However, the market still survives with a composition of 2.7% of domestic achievements in the first two months of this year.
