JAKARTA -North Korea will soon suspend its nuclear and missile experiments. In addition, they will also shut down a nuclear test site and move towards peace and economic growth.

It was broadcast by the North Korean national media as planned by the Summit with South Korea and the United States.

“North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said that North Korea no longer requires nuclear testing nor intercontinental ballistic missiles because its goal has been achieved in the development of nuclear weapons,” wrote the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) as quoted by Reuters on Saturday (21/4/2018).

North Korea also said it wanted to build a favorable international environment for the economy. Therefore, North Korea will build good relations and active dialogue with its neighbors and the international community.

This is the first time Kim Jong Un has affirmed his position in North Korea’s nuclear weapons program ahead of the summit.

Summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in will be held next week and a summit with US President Donald Trump will be held in late May or early June.

The announcement was also seen as Kim Jong Un’s seriousness in denuclearization talks with the United States in the summit.

“Nuclear testing ground in North Korea will be dismantled to ensure transparency that they will not continue the nuclear experiment,” KCNA added.

The Punggye-ri region in the north of North Korea is the only known place of nuclear testing ground, where all of the six nuclear experiments were conducted, including the latest and greatest experiments in September 2017.
