JAKARTA – The US government has decided not to implement an increase in import tariffs on Chinese products on March 1, 2019.
US President Donald Trump said he had asked China to immediately remove all tariffs on US agricultural products because the two countries’ trade talks went well. This was conveyed through his official Twitter account on Friday (1/3/2019) local time.
He also stated that the US did not increase the import tariff on products from Panda Country to 25% from the previous 10%. Previously, the US had indeed threatened to hoist import tariffs on Chinese products as of March 1, 2019 if Beijing did not show good faith in trade relations between the two countries.
US and Chinese representatives have held various intensive meetings to discuss their bilateral trade since the end of last year. However, there is still no final trade agreement produced.
A trade war between the two countries has been going on since last year, triggered by a US decision to raise aluminum and steel tariffs.
