Kuta, Bali

Kuta, Bali

Kuta is Bali's best-known beach town, a lively strip of sand, surf and street life just minutes from the airport. It is busy and energetic rather than quiet, and we think that is part of its appeal. The long beach is a favourite for beginner surfers, sunset walks and casual afternoons watching the waves, while lanes behind it fill with shops, cafés, warungs and bars. You will also find small Hindu offerings placed on pavements each morning, a reminder that local culture carries on alongside the crowds.

Kuta suits first-time visitors, surf learners, friends travelling together and anyone who likes to have plenty within walking distance. Food ranges from simple Indonesian dishes such as nasi campur and satay to international favourites. For more nature and tradition, Uluwatu's cliffs, Tanah Lot and the rice terraces further north are an easy day trip away. We suggest visiting between April and October, in the dry season, when skies are clearer and the sea is generally more inviting. Go early in the morning for calmer beaches.
