Previously, the government through the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises requested PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. considering the closure of the Jakarta-London direct flight route as it is considered less profitable.

Deputy for Financial Services, Survey and Consultant Service of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Gatot Trihargo said it has requested Garuda Indonesia to review the Jakarta-London direct flights. Because the route is considered less profitable for the company.

Gatot explained that the reasons for the opening of the Jakarta-London route previously targeted passengers flying from the UK to Australia, which is estimated at 350,000 people per year. However, other airlines will open direct flights from London to Perth, Australia, in July 2018.
