Jakarta -President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said the conditions in Palu-Donggala, Central Sulawesi, were still an emergency category. The government will send assistance to areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
How did the government deal with disaster in Central Sulawesi?
Jokowi: Conditions in Donggala Palu are still an emergency
“Indeed, the situation there is still in an emergency position,” Jokowi said after presiding over the commemoration of the Pancasila Power Day, at the Monument to Pancasila Sakti, Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta, Monday (1/10).
According to Jokowi, from the results of his observations in Palu, where four evacuations were still not accessible, because access roads to these places were still cut off.
Victims of earthquake and tsunami lack clean water and food
Another problem experienced in Donggala Palu is related to the availability of food and clean water.
“Food and water are a problem because shops are all closed,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi said the problem of scarcity of clean water was also caused by the absence of electricity in Central Sulawesi. Jokowi said the government would lower the mobile substation, so that water could be accessed by disaster victims.
“Of the seven existing substations, only 2.5 died,” he said.
The airport will be restored within a week
Jokowi said the airport in Palu would soon operate for the benefit of handling assistance for Central Sulawesi. Like, to transport BBM using aircraft.
“Yesterday airport was able to be used upto 2,000 meters, within a week it can be normal again,” said the President.
According to Jokowi, the condition of the victims is still traumatized, therefore it is necessary to solve many things in Palu and Donggala. Food aid will be handed over by the government using Hercules aircraft.
“It will be anchored first to Balikpapan or Makassar which is close,” he said.
Hopefully the assistance to the earthquake victims of Palu-Donggala will soon be fulfilled.
