YOGYAKARTA -Energy observer of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Fahmy Radhi said PT Pertamina (Persero) under the new leadership needs to accelerate the construction of oil refineries to cover domestic fuel needs and reduce imports.
“For the addition of refineries I think it can not be postponed again,” said Fahmy in Yogyakarta, Tuesday (4/24/2018).
According to him, domestic fuel consumption has reached 1.6 million barrels per day, while the installed capacity of the refinery currently only reaches 900 thousand barrels per day, so to cover the requirement, it still has to import fuel to reach 700 thousand barrels per day.
“Thus, import demand is almost 50 percent of total consumption,” Fahmy said.
Therefore, according to him, under the leadership of the new board of PT Pertamina need to make a breakthrough to suppress the import of fuel among others by accelerating the addition of refineries. Additional refineries need to be done given the existing oil refineries are now old age.
In addition to suppressing the dependence of BBM imports, according to Fahmy, the addition of new refineries narrows the space for rents hunters or oil and gas mafia.
“The reduced import of fuel can prevent the space for rente hunters who usually play on fuel imports,” said the former Oil and Gas Mafia Task Force.
Previously, the government committed to provide fiscal incentives to PT Pertamina (Persero) to support the acceleration of development and development of oil refineries.
In addition to four refineries to be revitalized, Pertamina will also build two new refineries, namely Tuban and Bontang Refineries.
