Jakarta -Wilmar’s plantation-based corporate group through its business unit in Sulawesi, PT. Multi Nabati Sulawesi (MNS) Bitung distributed aid of 800 jerry cans of cooking oil ‘Mount of Olives’ to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi.
This assistance is a form of Wilmar’s concern in alleviating the suffering of disaster victims and supporting the government’s efforts to rebuild the two regions after the September 28 disaster.
Country Head Wilmar Darwin Indigo said that the two areas were close to the company’s operations so that it was Wilmar’s obligation to participate in helping victims and the government to restore affected areas.
The assistance is channeled through the North Sulawesi Provincial Government which will distribute it to disaster areas. “We hope that these two regions can recover soon and activities can return to normal,” he said in an official statement on Thursday (04/10/2018).
According to Darwin, the aid distributed was a basic need that many communities needed at the disaster site. In addition to food ingredients, in the near future, it will again send the second phase of assistance in the form of heavy equipment, fuel oil and tents which are expected to help accelerate the recovery of the affected areas.
“We continue to coordinate with the government and related parties in the distribution, so that the assistance delivered is in accordance with the needs and on target,” he added.
As requested by the government, all parties are expected to participate in providing support in alleviating the burden of disaster victims. Moreover, the infrastructure in the two affected areas suffered severe damage, so the availability and distribution of aid was still stalled. At present, there are some areas in the affected areas that have not been touched by aid due to damage to infrastructure.
